What I will also never forget is Grace looking at me with such a calm demeanor and saying, "This is a lot, please don't hesitate to ask questions."
Our twin girls arrived unexpectedly at 34 weeks. We are first-time parents, which added to the stress of being in the NICU. Grace and Victoria were the first nurses who took over care of our girls when we arrived in the NICU. I will never forget all of the feelings and emotions running through my brain as I watched two separate teams work on our girls and give report upon their arrival from the delivery room to their NICU room. It was scary seeing them on breathing support and so many wires and tubes connected to them.
What I will also never forget is Grace looking at me with such a calm demeanor and saying, "This is a lot, please don't hesitate to ask questions." It was such a simple statement, but it was so reassuring in the moment to know that she understood how overwhelming everything was, and that it was okay for us to ask questions. As the weeks went on, we were fortunate to remain under the care of Grace and Victoria off and on. While we had many great nurses, these two are just exceptional. Grace goes above and beyond in every possible way. She never makes you feel like an inconvenience, even when there are other babies needing her and a million things going on. She is calm yet energetic and upbeat. She is constantly doing extra things like footprints, holiday photos, special name signs for the babies, etc., on top of her already demanding workload.
I also witnessed her helping her fellow nurses regularly without them asking. She looks for ways to make other people's lives easier and does it without expecting anything in return. We spent the first week after the twins' arrival with my wife being admitted to the postpartum floor, and the babies being on a separate floor in the NICU. There is absolutely no way I would have been able to juggle the two, or felt comfortable leaving the NICU at all, had it not been for Grace and Victoria being the first nurses we encountered. This nomination does not fully capture or describe the incredible nurse that she is. These two nurses work so well together and were nothing short of amazing. We will never forget them, and they will never understand the impact they made on us while our babies were in the hospital.
