Through her leadership, the Nurse Residency Program has evolved into a highly structured, evidence-based experience that prioritizes clinical judgment, patient safety, and professional growth.
I am honored to nominate Brie Paxton for a DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions as the Nurse Residency Program Clinical Educator. Brie consistently exemplifies compassionate nursing, not only through her direct interactions with nurse residents but through the systems, structures, and culture she has helped build to support their success.

Brie plays a pivotal role in shaping the transition of new graduate nurses into confident, competent professionals. She brings a rare combination of clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and educational design, ensuring each nurse resident feels supported, challenged, and valued. Through her leadership, the Nurse Residency Program has evolved into a highly structured, evidence-based experience that prioritizes clinical judgment, patient safety, and professional growth.

What sets Brie apart is her ability to meet nurse residents where they are. She recognizes that the transition into practice is both clinically demanding and emotionally taxing. Brie creates a psychologically safe learning environment where nurse residents feel comfortable asking questions, reflecting on their experiences, and learning from mistakes without fear of judgment. Her presence during simulation, debriefings, and one-on-one interactions is consistently described as supportive and empowering.

Brie has been instrumental in implementing innovative learning strategies, including high-fidelity simulations, case-based discussions, and interactive learning activities that translate directly into improved patient care. She also plays a key role in facilitating biweekly progress meetings, ensuring early identification of learning needs, and coordinating with unit leaders, preceptors, and educators to provide support. This proactive approach has contributed to improved competency development, stronger communication skills, and increased confidence among nurse residents.

Beyond individual teaching moments, Brie’s impact is seen at the organizational level. Her work has contributed to high retention rates among new graduate nurses, reduced practice variability, and strengthened the overall nursing workforce. She actively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, nursing leadership, and preceptors to ensure alignment between education and clinical practice, ultimately improving outcomes for patients and families.
Perhaps most importantly, Brie leads with heart. She celebrates the successes of nurse residents, supports them through challenges, and remains a consistent advocate for their growth and well-being. Her commitment extends beyond education—she is deeply invested in the people she serves and the community they care for.

Brie Paxton embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her unwavering dedication, compassion, and impact on both nurses and patients. Her work ensures that every nurse resident is not only clinically prepared but also grounded in the values of empathy, excellence, and patient-centered care.
