Through some of our toughest challenges, she has remained a constant—listening, advocating, and working behind the scenes to ensure our voices are heard, and solutions are found.
When people hear that someone works on Yawkey 6 IMCU, they often say, “If you can work there, you can work anywhere.” While true, what people don’t realize is why we stay. Yawkey 6 is a 38-bed cardiac-medical step-down unit—fast-paced, physically and mentally demanding—but what keeps us here is the strong sense of community, friendship, and family. At the center of that is our manager, Jill Robertson.
Jill has guided us through major changes, including transitioning to a much larger unit, helping turn it into a place we now call home. Through some of our toughest challenges, she has remained a constant—listening, advocating, and working behind the scenes to ensure our voices are heard, and solutions are found.
She is a present and engaged leader, rounding daily, creating a safe space for staff, and leading with respect, kindness, and open communication. She prioritizes staff well-being and unit morale while managing the demands of a complex unit. What truly sets Jill apart is that she is a nurse first. During rapids, codes, or difficult situations, she is right there alongside the team—supporting care, coordinating resources, and stepping in wherever needed. Her clinical expertise and passion for teaching strengthen the confidence and skills of those around her.
Jill also fosters professional growth by encouraging certifications and development opportunities and supporting staff in reaching their goals. Many of us have experienced significant growth under her leadership. Beyond the unit, she supports her staff personally—offering flexibility, checking in during difficult times, and showing up in meaningful ways.
Jill Robertson is the backbone of Yawkey 6. Her leadership, advocacy, compassion, and unwavering support create the foundation for exceptional patient care and a strong, connected team. She truly embodies what a nurse leader should be, and we are proud to nominate her for the DAISY Leadership Award.
