I want to recognize Sarah Jensen for the extraordinary care she provided during the birth of my baby.

Sarah was previously my mentor in the ICU before she transitioned to Labor and Delivery. I was so sad to see her leave the ICU, but it turned out to be the biggest blessing in disguise—she became my labor nurse on the most important day of my husband's and my life. When I came into work that morning, I had no idea I would be having my baby that night. I was overwhelmed and unprepared.

As the admitting nurse explained what was happening and reviewed my options, I felt nervous and scared. Even though Sarah wasn't scheduled to work yet, she answered the frantic and fearful text messages I sent her while I was in triage. She immediately eased my anxiety and made me feel less alone during those uncertain hours.

Once she came on shift and officially became my nurse, I knew I was in the best possible hands.

She was fully supportive of my birth plan, and when things did not go as expected, she remained flexible, calm, and confident. She never made me feel ashamed when plans had to change. She carefully walked my husband and me through every development—the highs, the lows, and every option available to us. She treated us with so much respect and compassion, always making sure we understood what was happening and felt included in every decision.

There were a few very scary moments right at delivery, and our baby had to go to the nursery. Throughout it all, Sarah remained steady and reassuring. She kept her tone calm and consistent, updating us and making sure we knew how our baby was doing. In the midst of fear, she was our anchor.

The physician was wonderful, but if I could relive that day, I would have wanted Sarah to catch our baby herself. That is the level of trust and confidence I had in her.

I don't even have the words to fully describe the experience. I have never felt so safe, so supported, and so genuinely cared for. On one of the most vulnerable and important days of my life, I was in the most capable hands in the world.

I've heard countless horror stories from women about laboring and birth, and I am eternally grateful for Sarah's care. I genuinely feel emotional thinking back on that day. I feel so lucky to have had such a positive experience. Her care was something my family will think about and talk about for the rest of our lives.

Sarah was pivotal to our birth story. Her clinical excellence, emotional intelligence, and unwavering calm made all the difference. She is everything a DAISY nurse represents, and I will forever be grateful that she was by our side.
