Despite frequent obstacles, including high acuity, behavioral challenges, social complexities, and at times, not enough staff, the 5WE team never gives up.
I believe we deserve this recognition to honor our team's unwavering commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care, despite having many challenging situations. Our team consistently cares for the patients who are often considered complex, difficult, or “misfit” within our hospital. These patients not only require clinical skill but also immense patience, empathy, and resilience.
Rather than viewing these assignments as burdens, this team embraces each patient with dignity, respect, and a deep sense of purpose. The nurses use their own resources to “door dash” supplies for our patients with special needs, and nurses bring meals so that, after hours, the patient has something to eat.
The list could go on. 5WE teams' compassion is evident in the small, meaningful moments, taking extra time to listen, de-escalating tense situations with kindness, advocating for patients who struggle to advocate for themselves, and creating a sense of safety and trust in even the most difficult encounters.
Despite frequent obstacles, including high acuity, behavioral challenges, social complexities, and at times, not enough staff, the 5WE team never gives up. They show up each day with determination and heart, supporting one another while ensuring that no patient is ever made to feel unwanted or overlooked. We believe that teamwork does make the dream work!
Our team exemplifies what nursing is meant to be! For 5WE resilience, teamwork, and extraordinary compassion in the face of adversity. One team... one purpose.
