My Mother was a patient at Gouverneur Hospital for swing bed for several weeks. After such a long period in several hospitals, Melissa was the ray of sunshine our family needed to help us get through these challenging moments. Melissa created an environment that was warm and inviting. She allowed our mother and us to ask questions and gently provided answers, sometimes over and over again. On one particularly busy day on the unit, Melissa walked in to my mother crying. Melissa took the time to compassionately place her hand on my mother's and reassured her that she was getting stronger. This reassurance allowed my mother to get stronger and return home, which was our goal. During the month my mother was in the hospital and three hospitals, Melissa was the most generous of all the nurses my mother encountered. We felt so blessed to have Melissa keeping our mother motivated and safe during her time at Gouverneur Hospital.
