Thanks to her rapid assessment and decisive action, the patient was urgently transferred to the ED and received the acute care they needed.
I am honored to nominate Anna, our Lead Outpatient RN for the 15 South MSK population, for the DAISY Award. Anna is an exceptional ambulatory care nurse who consistently goes above and beyond for every patient, colleague, and clinic she supports. Her dedication, compassion, and clinical excellence make her an invaluable part of our organization.
Anna routinely stays late to ensure every patient receives thorough follow‑up and to support her coworkers in completing their work. She approaches each day with an unwavering commitment to patient safety and high‑quality care. Even with her responsibilities in 15 South MSK, she frequently floats to other clinics without hesitation to ensure staffing coverage and seamless operations. Her flexibility and teamwork allow our clinics to provide safe, consistent care to every patient who walks through our doors.
Recently, Anna demonstrated extraordinary clinical skill and critical thinking during two separate emergent situations in the outpatient setting—an environment where medical emergencies are not as common, making early recognition even more vital.
First, Anna responded immediately when a patient reported feeling “off” after a fall. She quickly assessed the patient and recognized concerning signs of a possible stroke. Knowing the patient had a history of stroke only months prior, Anna acted swiftly: she stayed at the patient’s side, alerted the medical team, and promptly contacted 911. Thanks to her rapid assessment and decisive action, the patient was urgently transferred to the ED and received the acute care they needed.
Later that same week, Anna intervened when a patient with a spinal cord injury began exhibiting symptoms of autonomic dysreflexia (AD). She calmly assessed the patient, attempted multiple interventions, and supported both the patient and family with empathy and clear communication. Understanding the severity of AD, she again called 911 to ensure the patient received emergency care without delay. The family expressed deep gratitude for Anna’s clinical knowledge, quick thinking, and ability to recognize and act on a life‑threatening situation.
Anna exemplifies everything we strive for in ambulatory nursing. She combines compassionate patient-centered care with sharp clinical judgment—even in high‑pressure, unexpected moments. She consistently prioritizes patient safety, models excellence for her peers, and invests in teaching the next generation of ambulatory nurses how to provide outstanding care while maintaining strong assessment skills.
Our clinics are truly fortunate to have Anna. Her kindness, leadership, teamwork, and skill elevate our entire care environment. She is deeply deserving of this DAISY Award.
