The support that she gave us during those weeks was amazing, especially given the pressures that I know exist in community services.
The entire district nursing team showed such professionalism and compassion when they cared for my Mum during her last illness. They were responsive and caring, and they considered my Mum's needs and wishes throughout. Michelle Morris stood out, though, for providing exceptional care. I looked after my Mum for 10 days or so before she died, and almost every day, Michelle Morris visited to review her and manage her syringe driver. I've worked in the NHS for 25 years and can recognise outstanding nursing. Michelle delivered exactly that. I'm aware that she organised the visits to ensure that she could see my Mum when she was on duty, and deliver the continuity of care that was so important. My Mum's wish above everything else was to have a comfortable death that was not prolonged. She was therefore on high doses within the syringe driver. Michelle worked closely with the palliative care team and was responsive to my Mum's wishes for increased analgesia, etc., as her disease progressed. She was so kind to Mum and us all during the most difficult of times. She allowed plenty of time for her review, so her visits were not rushed. The support that she gave us during those weeks was amazing, especially given the pressures that I know exist in community services. I would like to recommend Michelle for a DAISY Award. I'll be sad not to see such a remarkable woman again and wish her the best in her future career.
