Her tireless efforts to elevate our unit and her unwavering support for her colleagues and patients make her truly deserving of this recognition.
Barbara’s visionary thinking and proactive approach led her to bring forward the idea of applying for the prestigious Beacon Award, which has inspired all of us to strive for greater excellence. She is involved in the Engagement and Recognition Council through shared governance, where she works tirelessly to promote a healthy work environment and advocate for actionable improvements based on staff feedback.
As our champion for the Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool (HWEAT), Barbara has taken the lead in ensuring our unit is not just a workplace but a supportive, collaborative, and uplifting community. Her advocacy doesn’t stop there; she mentors other nurses throughout the hospital in helping them achieve the nurse clinician designation, thereby fostering professional growth. She is also a Rapid Response Team RN and continues to empower all staff throughout the hospital in this supportive role.
Barbara’s dedication to quality improvement is evident in her participation in several initiatives. She serves on the HAPI (Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injury) Task Force, is an active member of the Stroke Program Quality Committee, and is engaged in our journal club, where she supports her peers through thoughtful discussions and sustained commitment, leading the first quarter article discussion of 2025.
Her involvement in the C. diff workgroup exemplifies her commitment to patient safety and education. She has been a vocal advocate for improvement projects, raising awareness with innovative ideas, such as hosting recent educational events that have resonated with staff.
Beyond her clinical expertise, Barbara embodies team spirit and positivity. She goes above and beyond to support nurses at the bedside, serving as a constant source of encouragement. Her creative gestures, such as organizing hand hygiene audits, recognition, and celebrating goal achievements with candy and personalized signs, reflect her personal investment in recognizing and uplifting her colleagues.
Barbara’s dedication extends beyond the hospital walls. She is actively involved in her community, volunteering with organizations like To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), which provides resources for individuals facing mental health crises. Currently, she is planning a 5k event with TWLOHA, demonstrating her commitment to making a meaningful difference both inside and outside of work.
Barbara’s passion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to her patients, colleagues, and community exemplify the values of the DAISY Award. She not only advocates for recognition but truly embodies it, making her an invaluable part of our team and an inspiration to us all.
