She spoke to me with genuine care, as if she were talking about her own loved one, not just my mom's nurse.
Kelsea was my mom's nurse for a very short time, but from the moment I first spoke to her, I felt compassion. She listened to my concerns and made me feel validated. She brought my concerns to the doctor, and my requests were considered. When I came in to visit with my mom as she was declining, Kelsea came in, sat with me, and explained what was going on. She spoke to me with genuine care, as if she were talking about her own loved one, not just my mom's nurse. Kelsea was also the nurse who assisted in the OR for a procedure scheduled for the next day, and she personally called me afterward to let me know it went well. After that point, she was no longer mom's nurse because mom was moved back to the ICU unit. That didn't stop Kelsea from being a compassionate nurse, as she came over to check on us every day she was there. My mom ended up going on the ventilator for several days, and when it came time to take the vent off, Kelsea came and just hugged me as I cried, not knowing what the outcome would be, but she made herself available and let me know she was there for the family and me. I felt a connection with Kelsea from our first meeting. She let me know that it was her job, but it was more than just her job. She genuinely cared about my mom, our family, and all that we were feeling. I've never had another nurse take the time to go out of her work area just to come see how I was holding up. Her kindness was very much appreciated. My mom spent 2 weeks there before she passed. All the nurses were very good to us, but I feel like Kelsea went above and beyond her duties to let me know she really cared.
