The child passed away at home the following day after transfer, with Helen providing ongoing support to the family throughout the day and night, despite her being off duty.
A patient of Helen's, whom I was looking after, was admitted to the pediatric ward over the weekend. This child was at the end of life stage. Despite Helen being off duty and unwell herself, she made numerous phone calls to the ward enquiring about his well-being and providing support to me, as the nurse caring for him, and the parents of the child. When the child began to deteriorate, Helen was very quick to arrive at the ward, on her day off, to arrange and organize for this child to be transferred home as per the parents' wishes. The child passed away at home the following day after transfer, with Helen providing ongoing support to the family throughout the day and night, despite her being off duty. Helen always goes above and beyond her role to ensure that the best care is provided to her patients, and is invaluable to the staff working on the ward and the families whom she supports. Her knowledge and skills are exceptional, and her commitment to her patients is unbelievable. Thank you for everything you do, Helen. You really are an angel!
