Ronnie helped us to navigate both our stay in the hospital and our preparation to go home.
My son, M, had a spinal fusion surgery at the Montreal Shriners. He just turned 17 and is therefore a grumpy teenager! Ronnie knew just how to interact with M and treat him not as a small child but as someone to explain things to and encourage. Ronnie was terrific at managing M’s pain and had solutions when things were not working as planned. And he was always cheerful, and upbeat- he always brightened when Ronnie came in. One day in particular, I remember that he walked with M to have his hair washed. M was feeling pretty nauseous, but Ronnie helped to distract him. Ronnie washed M’s hair himself. We talked about how long and thick M’s hair was, and Ronnie showed us a photo of when he had long hair-it was quite a photo. It was a very touching moment and one I will remember. M adored Ronnie and often told me he was a legend. It was a scary and uncertain time, not just for M, but for us too. Ronnie helped us to navigate both our stay in the hospital and our preparation to go home. I hope he can be recognized in some special way.
