During a patient care visit, the nursing staff identified a safety concern and immediately escalated it to the physician and the patient’s family. The patient initially had difficulty agreeing to the recommended plan of care, but the nursing staff remained calm, supportive, and persistent in helping the patient understand the importance of receiving further evaluation.

The patient’s family shared concerns about recent changes in the patient’s condition and expressed uncertainty about how to keep their loved one safe. The nursing staff validated their concerns, included them in the plan, and helped coordinate next steps for care.

After the visit, the patient agreed to go for further evaluation. Nursing staff coordinated with the appropriate departments and ensured the receiving team was aware of the patient’s pending arrival. They stayed late to ensure the patient would receive the care and support needed.

Even after their shift, the nursing staff remained attentive to the patient’s safety. When additional concerns arose, they continued to advocate for the patient and worked with the physician and security team to help ensure the patient arrived safely for further assessment and care.

The nursing staff went above and beyond to ensure the patient’s safety. They included the patient’s family in the plan, validated their concerns, and helped their loved one get the care they needed. Without the kindness, thoroughness, and compassion shown by these nurses, it is hard to know what would have happened. I am proud to work alongside these nurses. This is one example of how they go above and beyond for every patient they meet. They are an example for the nursing profession, and we are fortunate to have them on our team.
