Jaycee willingly took the time out of her busy workload to see if she could see what was going on and give me an update, all things she did not have to do.
Jaycee is a phenomenal nurse who consistently goes above and beyond. Being a nurse myself, I know how important it is to have someone who truly cares for you. Here I was, only 23 years old, an ER nurse with no past medical history, and I just endured a 15-day hospital stay. At the time Jaycee was my nurse, I was still at my lowest. I was unable to move much at all without my oxygen dropping and becoming absolutely terrified. I ended up having to be on BIPAP. However, Jaycee was the highlight of my day. From the moment she walked in, I knew I was going to be in good hands. She had the best personality and a smile that would light up any room. I trusted her and knew she would advocate for me at all times. She not only made sure I had everything I needed and completed all tasks in a timely manner, but she also made sure to involve my family.
Looking back, it was the little things Jaycee did that made me truly feel cared for and not just another patient taking up a bed. She took the time to braid my hair for me, started new IV's when no one else could get them, and even offered my mom her lunch because my mom did not want to leave my side. Jaycee truly has a heart of gold!
After a couple of days, I was moved to the 6th floor. One day, Jaycee was actually floated to this floor. Even though I was not her patient, she came to see and check on me. I was frustrated because this was the day of my surgery, and no one had come to get me or give me an update. I was told my surgery would be at 8:15 am, and it wasn't until 2:15 pm. Jaycee willingly took the time out of her busy workload to see if she could see what was going on and give me an update, all things she did not have to do.
Lying in PACU after my surgery, still groggy, I heard a familiar voice, and there she was! Jaycee and another nurse from the MICU had come to check on me after their shift was already over. It made me so happy to see familiar faces and know someone cared. She even stopped in the waiting room to update my family because they had not yet seen me. She also got my phone and helped me FaceTime my family to let them know that I was doing okay.
A great nurse makes all the difference, and Jaycee made a difference in my stay! She was truly amazing and a blessing to me on my worst days!
