The work did not end when the clinic closed. Care stretched beyond normal hours, yet the team remained—supporting one another, supporting me, and most importantly, supporting the family without complaint or hesitation.
I would like to nominate Yolanda Meredith, NP; Cassie Gilpin, PA; Hope Batman; Sarah Wilson; Kristin Gladney; and other members of the Pediatrics team for the DAISY Award in recognition of extraordinary compassion, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to children and families during one of the most difficult moments they can face.

Last Friday, our clinic became the setting for a situation no family ever expects and no care team takes lightly. A patient arrived in acute crisis—one that unfolded quickly and required immediate, thoughtful, and coordinated action. The complexity of the situation demanded rapid care coordination, careful clinical judgment, and significant emotional support, all while the clinic continued caring for other patients whose needs could not pause. The weight of the moment was heavy—for the patient, for the family, and for the care team surrounding them.

Amid this urgency, Yolanda Meredith and Cassie Gilpin stepped in seamlessly, not as individuals protecting roles or titles, but as clinicians fully committed to doing whatever was necessary to help this child and family. They made call after call, worked across agencies, managed paperwork and logistics, and refused to let obstacles slow forward progress. Their persistence, calm determination, and teamwork were instrumental in securing appropriate placement—turning uncertainty and fear into a clear path forward when it mattered most.

At the same time, the patient’s behaviors required that the patient and parents be separated from two siblings for safety—an agonizing but necessary decision. In that moment, without hesitation, Hope Batman, Sarah Wilson, and Kristin Gladney stepped forward as quiet anchors of safety and comfort. They transformed an overwhelming and frightening situation into one of care and normalcy for two young children by meeting them at eye level—with forts built from imagination, paper airplanes launched with laughter, relay races run down hallways, and sensory tools used with intention and patience. Through creativity and compassion, they offered these children something invaluable: a sense of safety during a moment none of them will forget.

The work did not end when the clinic closed. Care stretched beyond normal hours, yet the team remained—supporting one another, supporting me, and most importantly, supporting the family without complaint or hesitation. Because of their collective dedication, we were able to secure appropriate placement for the patient and avoid an emergency room visit, sparing the family additional trauma at an already breaking point.

What stood out most was not just what this team did—but how they did it. With humility. With compassion. With the shared understanding that patient- and family-centered care is not a slogan, but a responsibility lived out in moments like these, their willingness to step in wherever needed, to carry emotional weight together, and to protect the dignity of every individual involved reflects the very heart of The DAISY Team Award.

I am profoundly grateful for this team and deeply proud to work alongside professionals who exemplify what it means to care—not just clinically, but humanly.
