During one of the most frightening periods of my mother’s life, Nurse Young has been a steady, comforting presence for both my mom and our family.
I would like to commend Nurse Youngju Park from 4B North with the DAISY Award because she has provided exceptional care for my mother during a very difficult time. My mom has been through a traumatic experience, including being intubated and spending several days in the ICU. Since being extubated, she has struggled with anxiety and fear. Young has been incredibly attentive, patient, and compassionate throughout her recovery. She takes the time to truly listen to my mom, even though my mom primarily speaks Spanish, and Young does not. Despite the language barrier, she makes every effort to communicate clearly, using simple words, gestures, and kindness to make my mom feel understood and safe. She does not rush her. She pays attention to small details and notices when my mom is feeling anxious. She speaks to her calmly and reassures her, helping to ease her fears.

One moment that meant a lot to our family was when my mom asked to speak to me, and Nurse Young took the time to call me so I could talk to her. That simple act meant everything. It showed that she respects not only her patients' medical needs but also their emotional needs and the importance of family support. Young is sweet, caring, empathetic, and deeply committed to her patients. She demonstrates excellent communication, compassion, and professionalism every time she enters the room. During one of the most frightening periods of my mother’s life, Young has been a steady, comforting presence for both my mom and our family. She truly embodies what an extraordinary nurse should be.

Note: This is Young's 2nd DAISY Award!
