Her professionalism, kindness, clinical knowledge , and advocacy truly set her apart.
My son was unexpectedly admitted due to a surgical site infection. Prior to his admission to B9 South, he underwent a stressful emergency room experience that included drainage of the surgical site, placement of a Penrose drain, and ketamine sedation. Michelle helped admit us at the change of shift on Friday night and cared for him throughout the entire holiday weekend.
This was an incredibly stressful and overwhelming time for our family. Having Michelle as my son's nurse made an immeasurable difference in both his care and my ability to navigate such a difficult situation. From the moment she walked into the room, it was clear that she genuinely cared. Each day, she took the time to connect with him, talk with him, understand how he was feeling, and ensure he felt safe, seen , and important.
Michelle was equally supportive of me as a parent. She consistently checked in, listened carefully to my concerns , and made sure my questions and needs were communicated to the team. My son has ADHD and requires extra attention and redirection, especially in an unfamiliar hospital setting. Michelle took the time to understand what worked best for him and went above and beyond by spending extra time in the room whenever she could. Her knowledge, patience, and understanding of ADHD made this aspect of his care seamless and stress-free.
Michelle ensured that both he and I had everything we needed during our stay. At discharge on Sunday, she once again went above and beyond. Knowing Henry would need oral antibiotics administered at school for two weeks, she made sure the correct paperwork for our school district was completed by the team and personally went down to the pharmacy to obtain an extra bottle for school. She made the entire discharge process smooth and effortless during an already overwhelming time.
Bloomberg 9 South is incredibly fortunate to have Michelle’s leadership and compassion. As a fellow nurse at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, I can confidently say that Michelle embodies everything a Hopkins nurse should be. Her professionalism, kindness, clinical knowledge , and advocacy truly set her apart.
Thank you, Michelle, for everything you did for my son and for me during an extremely stressful and uncertain time. Because of you, his admission was seamless, and our experience was filled with compassion rather than fear. I am forever grateful for the care you provided our family.
