As a nursing leader, she consistently demonstrates a profound passion for her work and a deep commitment to fostering excellence within her team.
I am honored to nominate Timi Florkowski for the DAISY Nurse Leader award in recognition of her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the nursing profession. As a nursing leader, she consistently demonstrates a profound passion for her work and a deep commitment to fostering excellence within her team.
Throughout her tenure, Timi has established a culture of high standards and accountability. She leads by example—setting clear expectations, providing meaningful guidance, and ensuring that every team member is equipped to deliver the highest quality of care. Her leadership has directly contributed to outstanding employee engagement scores, a testament to the trust, respect, and motivation she inspires in her staff.
The unit’s quality of care is clear from its exceptionally low hospital-acquired conditions—zero CAUTIs, one HAPI, and a significant reduction in falls. Under Timi’s leadership, the team fully adopted the systemwide FallStat initiative, resulting in a 50% decrease in falls.
Beyond her professional expertise, Timi stands out for her genuine kindness and compassion. She supports her team, patients, and colleagues with consistent encouragement and empathy. She has organized birthday celebrations for patients without family nearby, rallied support for a staff member after a devastating injury, and regularly offers daily kudos. Her blend of operational excellence and heartfelt leadership creates a positive, high-performing environment, reflected in her consistently top-ranking employee engagement scores across both our hospital and Jefferson.
Timi is also an exceptional mentor to new nurses, providing the support and guidance they need to grow confidently in their practice. She invests time in understanding each nurse’s strengths and opportunities, offering thoughtful coaching that builds competence and trust. Her approachable leadership style encourages questions, learning, and reflection, creating an environment where novice nurses feel empowered rather than intimidated. Through her mentorship, new team members quickly transition into skilled, independent practitioners who feel valued and supported.
Timi is a leader who not only elevates nursing practice but also enriches the lives of those around her. Her dedication, integrity, and compassion make her exceptionally deserving of this recognition. I strongly and wholeheartedly recommend her for this honor.
