Jaki stuck with my mom and us, even called the ICU when her shift was over to check in.
Where do I begin? My mom was admitted to the ICU. Sadly, she never left, alive. She passed away a few days after admission. Leading up to that point, Jaki Nair was her RN. My prior experiences with hospital staff were not positive, so I was less than comfortable with nurses, to say the least. Let me start by saying - Jaki changed all of that. The news we were getting wasn't good, and it got progressively worse as the days went by. Jaki stuck with my mom and us, even called the ICU when her shift was over to check in. She told us the truth. I didn't want to hear it. But she was compassionate and forthright and kind and professional and human and understandable and supportive and responsive...the list goes on. There is not enough space or adjectives to describe Jaki fully. In terms of a specific example that demonstrates a meaningful difference Jaki made, I share with you this: something that I have turned to for peace and grace as I grieve the loss of my mom. Shortly before she passed, Jacki's shift ended. One by one, she hugged each family member. I was last. I was the POA and struggled with the weight of the decisions I had to make. She knew. She hugged me firmly then whispered, "You did good, okay? Real good." We looked at each other and knew, so did she. More so than she will ever know. Thank you for the blessing of Jaki Nair! Truly!
