She takes the time to listen, explain, advocate, and ensure that each patient receives personalized, dignified care, no matter how busy her day may be.
Vanessa is an extraordinary asset to the neurosurgery team. She works very closely with two of our surgeons and carries numerous responsibilities in the clinic. She is relied upon under tremendous pressure and is still more than willing to help in any way she can. Vanessa has been an incredible example of someone who adapts to change and handles tasks efficiently and professionally. She is always willing to take time out of her day to teach me skills or help me with a new task so I can become a better nurse. Whether it is hands-on nursing skills or addressing patient situations, Vanessa exemplifies dedication to her specialty. Often, patients seen in the clinic face life-changing surgical decisions. It can be very intense to discuss and make a plan for patients going forward. Vanessa can address any difficult situation that comes her way and, better yet, make it a learning opportunity for the rest of our nursing staff. She is extremely knowledgeable and thorough in every task she takes on. Most recently, we had a patient facing complications after tumor resection surgery. The patient and family had many concerns about their next steps. Vanessa was meticulous, attentive to every question they had, and patient and kind in explaining the rationale behind the diagnosis. I have yet to come across a circumstance where I couldn't ask Vanessa for her guidance. When we face emergency situations in the clinic regarding patient care, Vanessa assumes a leading role seamlessly and remains calm and collected. She diligently provides for patients, following them from their initial appointments through years of follow-ups. Vanessa is an outstanding nurse, and I hope I can continue to learn from her for a long time to come.

I would be honored to nominate Vanessa for a DAISY Award for a variety of reasons. Vanessa is not only an outstanding nurse, but her attention to detail and care for her patients are also evident. Whether coordinating complex care, easing the fears of newly diagnosed patients, or supporting families through some of their most challenging moments, Vanessa brings a level of attentiveness and empathy that truly sets her apart. As a nurse who works closely with patients with tumors, Vanessa consistently goes far above and beyond the expectations of the role. The journey these patients face is often overwhelming, emotionally heavy, and medically complex, and yet Vanessa meets each patient with remarkable patience, empathy, and unwavering presence. I often hear from patients, "Vanessa eased my anxiety so much, I did not know what to expect being post op and hearing her calming voice walk me through my symptoms and assured me that it is normal to feel this way, just made me feel wonderful". It is not often that you find a nurse who is as dedicated to their work as Vanessa is. From pediatric to adult tumor patients and other challenging diagnoses, Vanessa consistently provides comfort to all of our patients. She takes the time to listen, explain, advocate, and ensure that each patient receives personalized, dignified care, no matter how busy her day may be. Vanessa also has an impeccable eye for detail. She has composed many reports and keeps organized lists of patients we see, any care they may need, and the needed follow-up appointments. She sets reminders to contact patients and ensures their needs are met, even after they leave the clinic. There has not been a time when I asked Vanessa about a patient, and she did not know who I was talking about. Almost immediately, she knows who it is, what they are being seen for, how far out they need follow-up, and whether anything is needed beforehand, like imaging or additional appointments. Vanessa collaborates wonderfully with our team in the clinic and always ensures that everyone's needs are met. Vanessa is an outstanding nurse, and I am very proud to work so closely with her.
