When a patient requests to see the "higher up", a grievance or service recovery is what I usually expect. My visit with Mr. G, a patient of Dr. Zhang, overturned my assumption. Mr. G wanted to speak with me about a nurse who cared for him during most of his chemotherapy. Due to his poor veins, his oncologist prescribed placement of a central line for the last 3 doses of chemotherapy. “Sheeba came to me as God sent- as I was scared to place a port. I did not want to add to my risk of DVT. Sheeba exceptionally coordinated the care and ensured I was scheduled in the am, so that she could prep my hands- she used all the tricks she learned as a nurse- and successfully placed the IV for the rest of my treatments. I wanted to speak to the cancer center so Sheeba could be recognized for her skill, empathy, and delivering nothing but excellence.”

Sheeba is a great team player and a strong patient advocate. Once, I came to pick up something from my office on a Saturday and thought I'd check in with the weekend crew. Sheeba saw me and pulled me aside to request a visit to a patient, as he had several care coordination issues as part of his discharge from the hospital. She did not care whether I was in street clothes or not! That visit turned out to be the spark for the IO/OP coordination meetings, closing the gap in new patient referrals coming from hospital admissions. That is Sheeba- consummation of all the qualities of a DAISY Nurse!
