I am a new grad nurse on 5400 Acute Medicine, and John Michael is my preceptor on this floor. I have had multiple preceptors throughout my new grad nurse journey, and John Michael has been the best by far.

John Michael is incredibly knowledgeable about medicine, about his patients, and about giving the best evidence-based care possible. He listens to his patients, he educates himself about each of their individual stories, and he truly cares about each patient that he comes across. He doesn't only focus on giving the best care while in the hospital, but he also cares about patients outside of the hospital and educating them on how to continue living the healthiest and longest life they can.

While caring for multiple high-acuity patients, John Michael showed me how to effectively manage my time on the floor. He taught me how to cluster care, prioritize patient care, and delegate tasks to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. This skill has proven to be extremely valuable and helped me feel more organized and confident.

As my time learning from John Michael comes to an end, I realize how much I have grown under his guidance. Because of his teaching, support, and example, I now feel confident in my nursing skills as I begin caring for patients independently.

He has shaped not only my clinical abilities but also the kind of nurse I aspire to be. I hope to provide the same exceptional, compassionate care to my patients that John Michael has consistently demonstrated.
