There are those who are called to an amazing, caring profession for their ability to give willingly, care passionately, and for their open and loving hearts.
I have had to make use of the emergency room a couple of times in the past several months. On a visit to address some ongoing issues related to my diagnosis, we had the distinct blessing of having Ethan as our nurse.
He was knowledgeable about what he was doing and performed the tasks at hand proficiently. He also educated us each step of the way. At several different points, he checked in on how we were doing and responded with appropriate empathy and care. If we had questions or concerns, he acknowledged them and, if need be, would advocate for us with the doctor.
At times when it seemed like there was a delay in getting labs, he would always double-check and then address our concerns even before we verbalized them. As we came to the end of my treatment, he expedited what they could to get us on our way. As we left, we commented on how it really felt like we had been visiting with family during our emergency room visits.
Several weeks later, we needed to go back to the ER, and Ethan sought me out as the EMS brought me in. He greeted me warmly and let me know that he would be checking in on me. As my spouse arrived, he greeted them at the entrance to the ER and showed them to the room that I was in. We were both treated very warmly and encouraged to express concerns, needs, or anything.
Ethan showed the same care and concern as he did on my previous visit, which again made us feel like family. There are those who are called to an amazing, caring profession for their ability to give willingly, care passionately, and for their open and loving hearts. Thank you, Ethan, for embodying all that!
