Olivia took the time to turn a really sad situation into something more positive and helped the patient to process his emotions in a healthy way, with her right there supporting him.
When I think about what the DAISY award is and what it represents, Olivia immediately comes to mind. She constantly goes above and beyond in the ways that she cares for her patients.

Recently, En Route Care had a mission with a 1C, mental health patient who was being aeromedically evacuated to the U.S. for care. Our team picked up the patient and transported him to the hospital on Camp Foster. During that time, the patient received notification from his command, telling him that he would not be returning to Japan.

The patient became visibly sad, and Olivia was so sensitive to the patient that she immediately picked up on it. She got the patient to open up and to talk about all the things he loves about Japan and what he was going to miss the most. He was especially sad that he would not be able to go to his favorite Japanese convenience store and eat Fami Chiki again.

Olivia took the time to turn a really sad situation into something more positive and helped the patient to process his emotions in a healthy way, with her right there supporting him.

But it didn't stop there. The next day, for the outbound mission, Olivia showed up to pick up the patient, and she had bought him Fami Chiki! The look on his face was priceless... pure joy!

It's the little extra ways that Olivia does every day that truly showcase what a warm, caring person and provider she is, and how she consistently goes the extra mile, which makes her deserving of the DAISY Award!
