I am honored to submit this nomination for Andrea Ofiana. It is difficult to put into words the impact she has not only on her patients but on her team. Andrea embodies what the DAISY Award represents: compassion, leadership, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to patient-centered care.
One moment that deeply touched me occurred during a meeting in her office. While we were talking, we heard a Med-Surg patient outside repeatedly calling out for help. Without hesitation, Andrea immediately stood up and went to check on the patient herself. The patient was requesting a few items—simple needs—but Andrea made sure they felt heard and acknowledged. She assisted the patient directly and then ensured the primary nurse was informed and involved.
What stood out to me most was not just that she responded, but how she responded—with urgency, compassion, and attentiveness to the patient’s concern. No call for help is ever too small or beneath her attention.
On a more personal level, Andrea's compassion changed my life in a moment of fear. During my pregnancy with my daughter, my rainbow baby, I came into work terrified, believing my water had broken. I was overwhelmed and in tears. Andrea immediately prioritized me. She stayed well beyond when she should have gone home, walking me down to the ultrasound herself and making sure every step was handled with care. She did not leave until she knew I was okay. In that vulnerable moment, she wasn't just a leader; she was a source of strength and comfort. I will never forget how supported and safe she made me feel.
Andrea consistently goes above and beyond for her team. Whether it's 3:00 a.m. or 10:00 p.m., she is always just a phone call away. She will come in wearing scrubs, ready to step onto the floor and work alongside her staff without hesitation. She assists with breaks, lunches, and whatever else is needed, never asking for recognition, simply showing up because she cares.
Andrea Ofiana is the definition of an exceptional nurse leader. She advocates fiercely for her patients and supports her team with heart and humility. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
