Her voice carries beyond the classroom. Many of us can hear her guidance in clinical moments long after class ends. That is the mark of a lasting educator.
Professor Porter serves as a true role model for the nursing profession by modeling professionalism, accountability, and clinical excellence every single day. I have had the privilege of learning from her in the PN program, throughout the RN program, and now in Med Surg II. Across every level, her expectations remain high, her integrity unwavering, and her commitment to student success constant.
She mentors beyond content. She mentors character. She teaches us that being a nurse is not just about skill competency, but about fairness, ethical practice, advocacy, and preparation. She challenges us to think critically and to show up with excellence, not just when someone is watching, but always.

Mrs. Porter has a rare ability to make complex concepts accessible. She breaks down difficult Med-Surg material into understandable, real-world application, connecting pathophysiology to patient care in a way that builds confidence instead of confusion.
Her teaching style makes coming to class purposeful. She engages us through classroom activities and “Jeopardy”-style tournaments, asks questions that stretch our thinking, and ensures we understand the “why,” not just the “what.” Even during heavy content weeks, her energy remains steady and encouraging.
She does not simply want us to pass exams. It is my belief that she wants us to become safe, competent nurses. That intention is felt in every lecture, classroom activity, and conversation.
Mrs. Porter builds strong working relationships by advocating for her students and allowing for open communication with those around her. She reinforces that we are part of a professional community, not just a cohort.
She models collaboration, accountability, and mutual respect, and prepares us to do the same in our future nursing roles.
