Because of her initiative and compassion, the patient was able to go outside and experience fresh air, sunlight, worship, and prayer surrounded by her family. It was a sacred moment during an incredibly difficult time.
I am honored to recognize RN Lexi McConville for the extraordinary compassion and dedication she demonstrated to a patient and her family on C23.
I first met Lexi when she submitted a referral for spiritual support after her patient and the patient's family received very heavy news. When I met with the patient, she expressed a deep desire to "get out of this bed" and "get out of this hospital room." She longed for fresh air, sunlight, and a moment of peace outside the walls of the ICU.
After sharing this with Lexi, she immediately recognized how meaningful this simple yet powerful request would be. Without hesitation, Lexi sprang into action. Coordinating an outdoor visit for an ICU-level patient is no small task, but Lexi gathered the appropriate team members, secured the necessary resources, and carefully organized every detail to make it possible.

When the patient returned to her room, she and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the entire team-but Lexi was at the core of this impactful experience. She saw beyond the medical needs of her patient and recognized the emotional and spiritual importance of honoring her wish. She carried out this act of kindness with zeal, gentleness, and a smile.
Lexi, thank you for going the extra mile to serve your patient with exceptional compassion and care. You are a remarkable nurse, and your dedication truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
