Throughout this process, Brittanie remained a steady advocate, offering consistent reassurance, helping the client overcome language barriers, and empowering her to confidently communicate her child’s needs.
One of our NFP clients noticed early on that her son was not meeting important developmental milestones. Unlike other children his age, he struggled to hold his head up, sit independently, crawl, or walk. Concerned about these delays, she brought them up to her pediatrician. Unfortunately, her concerns were dismissed, and no referrals or evaluations were recommended.
Feeling discouraged but determined to help her son, the client turned to Brittanie, her nurse home visitor, who became a vital source of guidance, advocacy, and emotional support. Brittanie actively listened, validated the mother’s concerns, and provided education on developmental milestones and available resources. Together, they created a plan to pursue the care her son needed. With Brittanie's encouragement and support, the client changed healthcare providers twice until finding one who truly listened and took action.
Brittanie continued to assist by helping the client prepare questions for appointments, understand medical feedback, and navigate referrals to specialists for diagnostic evaluations and treatment. Recognizing the need for additional developmental support, Brittanie also facilitated a referral to early intervention services. These services confirmed the client’s concerns and recommended targeted therapies to promote her son’s growth and development. Throughout this process, Brittanie remained a steady advocate, offering consistent reassurance, helping the client overcome language barriers, and empowering her to confidently communicate her child’s needs.
With ongoing coaching and support, the client has grown significantly in her ability to navigate complex healthcare and service systems. She now independently makes phone calls, schedules appointments, and coordinates her son’s care, demonstrating the self-advocacy skills she developed through her partnership with her nurse home visitor.
As her son approached his second birthday, Brittanie and the client collaboratively developed a comprehensive transition plan to ensure continuity of care and access to community resources. Brittanie ensured they remain connected to vital supports that will foster the child’s development and the family’s independence after completion of our program. Through compassionate guidance, consistent encouragement, and resource connection, Brittanie played an essential role in empowering this mother to advocate for her child’s health and future, transforming frustration and uncertainty into confidence and hope.
