I would like to recognize Abigail for the profound compassion she showed my daughter, my son-in-law, and my entire family during a very difficult situation in our lives.

Throughout my daughter's pregnancy, she would listen to her baby's heartbeat every single day. The sound of his heartbeat was my daughter's comfort, connection, and a symbol of love and hope. During pregnancy, this sweet little boy was diagnosed with alobar holoprosencephaly, which is a fatal condition, and we knew our time with this special baby would be limited. Even so, that steady sound of his heartbeat remained a source of strength for my daughter.

When he was born, Abby demonstrated empathy that went far beyond clinical care. Abby understood how much his heartbeat meant to my daughter. In one of her most tender and sacred moments, Abby gently passed over her stethoscope so she could listen to his heartbeat again at birth.

What may have seemed like a small, routine gesture to some was profoundly meaningful to her and her husband. This gesture allowed her to hear the sound she had cherished every day of her pregnancy just one more time. This simple act became such a priceless gift, one my daughter will carry with her always.

Abby's awareness, tenderness, and humanity brought comfort, peace, and such a beautiful moment into an otherwise unbearable situation. Abby embodies everything the DAISY Award represents, and I am forever grateful for the compassion and love she gave my family.
