Fily’s response showed that she views nursing as more than assigned tasks—it is a calling rooted in compassion, teamwork, and advocacy.
Fily Moya, a nursing student from Texas State Technical College (TSTC), consistently demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to patient-centered care during her clinical rotation at Valley Regional Medical Center. From the beginning of her rotation, Fily stood out as a student who truly cares about her patients and the nursing team. She received numerous positive commendations from her preceptors, who described her as an excellent student with strong IV skills, outstanding patient interaction, and a calming, reassuring presence. Patients and staff alike recognized her thoughtful approach to care, with comments such as, “Thank you for helping patients feel comfortable and clean.”
Fily’s dedication to nursing was most evident during a medical emergency involving a patient who was not assigned to her care. Without hesitation, she recognized the seriousness of the situation and immediately responded. Fily stayed with the patient, provided suctioning, checked the nasogastric tube, and assisted the team as care was being delivered. Her calm demeanor, quick actions, and willingness to help reflected not only strong clinical skills but also a deep sense of empathy and responsibility for all patients.
Fily’s response showed that she views nursing as more than assigned tasks—it is a calling rooted in compassion, teamwork, and advocacy. Her instinct to step forward and care for a patient in need speaks volumes about her character and her future as a nurse.
In recognition of her warmth, professionalism, and extraordinary actions on behalf of a patient not under her care, Fily Moya received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students. She is a true asset to the nursing profession and a wonderful representative of TSTC and the values of compassionate care.
