I broke my leg on Saturday in my backyard, sustaining a severe fracture that required immediate hospitalization. Even my surgeon shared the next day that this type of injury is known to cause significant pain, and that certainly proved true in my case.
Following surgery, I was receiving both oral and IV pain medications. Despite this, my pain remained at 7, 8, or even 9 for the next day and a half. The IV medication left me feeling foggy and disconnected, yet without meaningful relief. I wanted so badly to return home, but I was honestly afraid to do so because my pain felt unmanageable.
That is when Jody, my nurse, made all the difference.
Jody took the time to truly listen and thoughtfully assess my situation. She explained that transitioning off IV pain medication and managing pain effectively with oral medication would be key to my recovery and discharge, but she also recognized that, in my current state, that goal felt completely out of reach.
Rather than accepting that as the status quo, she took initiative. She contacted my care team and advocated for a change, requesting the addition of an anti-inflammatory medication.
That single, thoughtful action changed everything. The improvement in my pain was immediate and remarkable. For the first time since my injury, I felt clear-headed, comfortable, and in control. I was able to discontinue the IV medication entirely and remain stable on oral medication—without needing an increase.
Even more incredibly, later that same day, I felt well enough to participate in occupational therapy. I was able to use crutches and walk to the bathroom—something that had felt impossible just hours before.
This transformation in my experience is entirely thanks to Jody. Her attentiveness, clinical insight, and willingness to advocate on my behalf completely changed the course of my hospital stay. She did not just provide care—she elevated it.
Because of her, I moved from fear and suffering to confidence and progress. I will be forever, deeply grateful to Jody for her exceptional care. She is not only a skilled nurse but a truly extraordinary one.
Truly, most of the staff I have worked with have been great. But my time with Jodi was exceptional....
Thank you for employing such top-notch staff!
