I nominate Karen because she is one of our exceptional charge nurses. I have been with Brooks for some time now. Whatever the task, she is the person to call for support on patient-related concerns, organizational questions, and educational guidance. There is no hesitancy in her assistance. Exact times and dates are too numerous to count. It is shocking that she has not been nominated previously. Her selflessness and dedication to Brooks' patients and to the nursing staff are exemplary. She captures the true Spirit of our mission as nurses. Karen embodies every aspect of what a nurse should aspire to become. Her advocacy for the patients, fellow nurses, and her role modeling for new nurses go above and beyond. Her effort to ease nervousness, “Come on, Girl, let's do this", " promotes confidence in our new nurses. Demonstrating the love for her profession, " it's going to be alright". Her infectious smile and laugh ring throughout the Halls as a reminder that we are all in this together. She listens with compassion; she acts with love. She teaches with an exuberance that defies barriers. Both new and seasoned nurses are assured of the gift of competence when Karen is assisting. Patients request Karen's presence. More recently, I had a patient who was quite anxious. The patient specifically asked for her presence during the cathing procedure. Karen assured her and guided nursing with cathing. Outcome exceeded expectations. And yet with all these qualities, she quietly carries herself in a peaceful way without seeking praise or recognition for what she silently accomplishes during her day - attributes every nurse should aspire to attain. I wholeheartedly wish for the team to consider Karen Gibson for all that she has done in the past and continues to do as a lifelong servant of helping people.
