My family would like to nominate Shannon M for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and care she provided to my mom during her long stay on Gagnon 5. There were several instances during my mom’s stay when her heart would go into rapid a-fib. Any time this happened, she became extremely anxious and frightened. During one particular occurrence, Shannon was there, and thank God she was! She immediately stepped in and provided calm, reassuring care. She held my mom’s hand, spoke to her gently, and explained everything that was happening in a way my mom could understand. Her ability to remain composed and compassionate in such a critical moment made all the difference. Shannon not only eased my mom’s emotional distress, but she also ensured she received the medical care she needed in a timely manner. Within minutes, my mom began to feel better both physically and emotionally because of Shannon’s attentiveness and advocacy. During an overwhelming and frightening experience, Shannon was a source of comfort, reassurance, and strength for all of us. Our family truly believes my mom was touched by an angel each day she walked into the room. Shannon exemplifies the values of nursing through her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to her patients. It is so clear that any person who crosses her path, patient and family members alike, is lucky to be touched by such a person. She is truly a beautiful soul, and we thank her for her strength, knowledge, and compassion during such a difficult time.
