Under her guidance, this initiative was successfully implemented in our unit, enhancing patient care and improving shift-to-shift communication.
I am honored to nominate my Nurse Director, whose leadership consistently exemplifies empowerment, visibility, excellence, and integrity. Her role in our unit has been transformative and impactful in many ways.

She actively empowers staff to identify opportunities for improvement and supports us in bringing meaningful change to the unit. A strong example of this is when she empowered nursing to roll out a new unit-wide initiative called "Last Call." She empowered nurses on the unit to take ownership of this process, develop this initiative, and implement it into practice. This initiative requires nursing to conduct mandatory rounding in the last hour of the shift and complete a checklist to ensure that up-to-date vital signs are obtained, drains are emptied, and patients have everything they need before shift change. Under her guidance, this initiative was successfully implemented in our unit, enhancing patient care and improving shift-to-shift communication. She fosters autonomy while ensuring we feel supported, creating an environment where staff feel confident and valued in making clinical and operational decisions that drive positive clinical change.

Additionally, she demonstrates high visibility in our unit by maintaining a consistent presence. She attends morning safety rounds at the nurse's station daily, engaging directly with staff and offering real-time clinical insight and advice. She is highly accessible, responsive, and approachable. She maintains a genuine open-door policy, welcoming conversations about clinical challenges, professional development, or personal concerns in her office at any time. I personally recall several times when I went into her office for advice and guidance while I was pursuing a master's degree in nursing. Whether it was providing in-depth insights on leadership concepts, actively assisting me in securing preceptorships, or providing moral support, she was always there, going the extra mile to support my academic and professional success. Her visibility builds trust and strengthens our unit through her consistent engagement and investment in our well-being.

Also, she consistently strives for excellence in our unit, showcasing her commitment to professional practice and patient care. She sets high standards while providing the tools and support necessary to achieve them. For example, we had a recent event in which patients reported multiple sleep disruptions throughout the night, and she recognized this as an opportunity to improve the patient experience while in the hospital. She responded by providing evidence-based practice education to staff on the importance of sleep hygiene for patients in the hospital. She also collaborated with multiple teams to improve patients' sleep hygiene by reevaluating overnight workflows. These efforts resulted in patients receiving sleep kits at night, and non-urgent lab draws and crucial care were postponed until the morning. This not only improved patient satisfaction and comfort but also further reinforced a culture of promoting excellence in clinical care on our unit.

Finally, she is a true role model for others, leading by example in professionalism, respect, and compassion. She demonstrates equitable leadership and consistently treats every team member with respect and dignity. I have witnessed firsthand her fair and equitable leadership - whether it was ensuring that all staff members have the chance to speak during staff meetings, or mediating staff challenges with fairness. She consistently ensures all staff members feel heard, respected, and valued. Personally, I have sought her guidance on several occasions when navigating patient care situations as a staff nurse. Each time, she has provided thoughtful, evidence-based insight while empowering me to optimize patient care. She is not only an exceptional nurse leader but a true mentor whose influence has shaped my professional development.

I am incredibly proud to work under her leadership. Her dedication to both patient care and the growth and well-being of her staff is unmatched. She embodies what nurse leadership should be, and our unit is stronger because of her.
