I am honored to nominate Tiana Fernandez, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership, clinical excellence, and fearless advocacy for patient safety. During a recent shift, Tiana was serving as the Charge Nurse when she identified a patient whose cardiac rhythm was clearly abnormal and concerning, initially appearing consistent with Torsade's de Pointes. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Tiana immediately went to the patient's bedside and assumed leadership of the emergency response. When the patient lost pulses, Tiana decisively led the team in initiating high-quality chest compressions, activated a rapid response, and ensured the code cart was promptly brought to the bedside. She administered the first dose of epinephrine and followed the defibrillator's recommendation to deliver a shock. Return of sinus rhythm was achieved before the Code team arrived, demonstrating her strong clinical judgment, preparedness, and ability to lead effortlessly under extreme pressure. Tiana remained calm, focused, and authoritative. This moment exemplifies her fearlessness and unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing care. For this reason, she deserves the DAISY Award.
