Donita does far more than lead strategy. She cares deeply and personally.
Donita exemplifies the extraordinary compassion, ethical leadership, and global nurse advocacy that define this award. Her career blends clinical expertise, strategic vision, and a deeply human approach, transforming the lives of thousands of internationally educated nurses across 125+ countries. While Donita’s measurable accomplishments are remarkable -- 1,500+ deployed healthcare professionals, a 12,000-candidate global pipeline, and a 49% increase in candidate diversity -- her impact is rooted in compassion. She is the person her teams call when something goes wrong, the advocate nurses rely on when the migration journey becomes overwhelming, and the leader who believes that ethical international recruitment requires not just process, but presence.

A powerful example occurred when a nurse from the Middle East arrived in Ohio for his first U.S. assignment. In his first week, he was struck by a wrong-way interstate driver in a devastating motor-vehicle accident that nearly cost him his life. With no family in the United States and the ER unable to reach anyone overseas, Donita sprang into action. She leveraged internal records to prevent delays in life-saving treatment and served as the primary point of contact for the hospital. She then initiated support for his mother’s emergency visitor visa, arranged her travel, and coordinated an airport pickup. Donita ensured his mother could be by his bedside, organized regular visits, provided ongoing clinical and emotional support, and stood in the gap as his healthcare advocate until his family arrived.

A second example reflects her unwavering commitment to healing and safety. One of her nurses was recently the victim of a brutal physical assault while on her way to work. Donita and her team mobilized every available resource: EAP services, short-term disability support, legal-system guidance, and coordination with the client facility. Donita then traveled in person to meet with the nurse at her home, helping her understand discharge instructions, medications, and treatment plans while offering emotional support during those traumatic early days. She escalated the incident to the Migrant Workers Office in Washington, DC, securing additional advocacy. When the nurse expressed a deep need to return home temporarily to heal with family, Donita partnered with the travel team and secured company-funded international airfare so she could recover safely. Donita continues to walk this journey with her.

These stories show what data alone cannot capture: Donita does far more than lead strategy. She cares deeply and personally. She believes that ethical recruitment demands compassionate accompaniment before deployment, during transition, and throughout a nurse's U.S. assignment. To Donita, nurses are never cases; they are humans, families, dreams, and futures.

Her influence extends across the healthcare recruiting profession. Donita is active in AONL, AORN, the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses, NATHO, and the American Staffing Association, and she chairs the Clinical Executive Committee. She is a TruMerit/ICN Certified Global Nurse Consultant, a Case Western Shaunessy Coldiron Senior Nurse Executive Fellow, a mentor, and co-author of The Pivotal Role of Nurse Practitioners as Hospitalists in Nurse Leader Journal. For the second year in a row, Donita has also been named to Staffing Industry Analysts Global Power 150 Women in Staffing, a distinction recognizing her sustained global impact and leadership.

Her compassion extends beyond her professional sphere. After the tragic loss of her newborn grandson, Donita transformed grief into service by raising funds to purchase Caring Cradles for Cincinnati hospitals. These special bassinets allow grieving families more time to cradle, connect, and say goodbye, an act of love that mirrors the empathy she brings to every international nurse she serves. Donita’s leadership demonstrates that ethical recruitment is not merely compliance; it is compassion in action. She brings hope to nurses in crisis, restores dignity to those facing trauma, and builds pathways that change lives across continents. For her extraordinary impact, unwavering humanity, and lifelong commitment to ethical global nurse mobility, I am honored that she is being recognized with the TruMerit DAISY Award.
