I would like to nominate Nurse Alphine for the DAISY Award for her exceptional compassion, dedication, and willingness to go the extra mile, even beyond her regular duties. My father, an outpatient, came in for a follow-up checkup at Lorma. At that time, he was suffering from an infected wound on his right leg, which made it extremely painful and difficult for him to walk. Although he wasn’t admitted, the discomfort he was experiencing made even simple movement a challenge. Nurse Alphine, who was working in the dialysis unit that day, happened to be nearby. Even though my father was not under her direct care during this visit, she didn’t hesitate to step in. What made her stand out was not just her professionalism, but her heart. After completing her regular shift, instead of heading home, she stayed to assist my father personally. She helped him walk, made sure he was comfortable, and ensured that he received proper follow-up support for his wound. She did all of this quietly, without seeking any recognition, purely out of kindness and empathy. It may have seemed like a small act to some, but to us, and especially to my father, it meant everything. In a time when many patients feel like just another number, Nurse Alphine made him feel genuinely cared for and supported. Her dedication, even off the clock, is a true example of the kind of nursing excellence that the DAISY Award honors. She didn’t just do her job — she showed what it truly means to care. And for that, we are deeply thankful.
