Jennifer Hamlin’s attention to my medical needs was extraordinary.
At the close of a 42-day wound treatment, I feel both relieved and appreciative of the care that was provided to me by Dr. A and the staff at the Irving Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Wound Center. In particular, one specific nurse stood out above the rest.
Jennifer Hamlin’s attention to my medical needs was extraordinary. From my very first visit, this tiny red-headed ball of energy represented what the BSW system intends to convey to the community. Her performance was professional, efficient, knowledgeable, and compassionate every time we met. I would imagine there is an expectation that BSW has for all of its paid employees. What qualifies Nurse Jennifer for the honor of the DAISY Award, in my opinion, is her above-and-beyond attitude.
I do not know if it comes from years of service or if it is an intuitive behavior, but she knows how to “read the room.” Knowing your audience makes a difference. I came in both scared and skeptical of the necessity for a wound vacuum treatment. After two very recent surgeries, I was feeling a great deal of discomfort and defeat. She picked up on that and proceeded slowly that first week. I appreciated her respect for my comfort and modesty. She was gentle, as you would hope a nurse would be, and detailed in her instructions of what I needed to do to get well.
As the weeks passed, Jennifer proved to be someone that I could trust and respect, and I hope Baylor Scott & White recognizes her with me. I believe that this special nurse is worthy of the DAISY Award.
