Kayla goes beyond her job description to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care.
I would like to nominate Kayla, our Critical Care Educator. Although she has been in her role for less than a year, Kayla has already made a lasting impact. She is knowledgeable, dependable, and incredibly supportive. Nurses feel comfortable calling her at any time because she creates a safe, nonjudgmental environment where questions are welcomed, and learning is encouraged. She never approaches situations with negativity, only solutions.
A few weeks ago, we admitted a patient with a lumbar drain. Neither I nor the other nurses on shift had previous experience managing one. This could have easily become an overwhelming and stressful situation. Kayla immediately stepped in with confidence and clarity. She thoroughly explained the management of the lumbar drain, walked us through what to monitor, and ensured we understood both the “how” and the “why” behind the care. She did not rush the conversation and made sure every nurse had the opportunity to ask questions or voice concerns.
To further support the team, she brought huddle cards with key information so we could reference them and pass them along to the next nurse. She even provided her personal phone number so that the night shift and any subsequent nurses caring for the patient could call her directly if questions arose. That level of dedication speaks volumes. Kayla goes beyond her job description to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care. Kayla is super smart, like intimidating smart, but she empowers you to think and build confidence, never making you feel less than.
