Working alongside Mary, I see how she cares for her patients daily. She provides compassionate care and treats each patient with dignity and respect. Recently, she went above and beyond the standard of care with one of our patients.

We have a patient whom we have cared for in our unit for over a year. His home was affected by Hurricane Helene, so he has been unable to return home to continue care there. His parents live out of state, and due to transportation issues and his extensive hospital stay, he has been unable to see his parents for almost two years.

He received a phone call from a family member recently and was told that his father had a stroke and was in critical condition. He shared the news with staff, and Mary offered to take him to see his dad in the hospital. Mary arranged a day and time with him when she was off from work and took him in her personal vehicle to visit his father.

A week later, he received the call that his father had passed away. When talking with him about his dad, he told me that Mary will never know how appreciative and thankful he is that she was willing to take him to see his dad, especially since this was the last time he would see him.

He said, “I will remember how she helped me for the rest of my life.”
