Not only did Jordan go beyond what she had to do to make a scary situation less frightening, but she also completely changed my daughter’s outlook on getting an IV. She gave her the confidence to believe she could do it.
I had to bring my daughter to the emergency room very early after she woke up with sudden, severe abdominal pain. She was scared, and so was I.

Nurse Jordan entered the room with such a caring nature. My daughter had to have an IV placed, and she had not had one since she was a baby, so this felt completely new to her. Saying she was terrified, on top of the pain and fear, is putting it very lightly.

Jordan brought her supplies in and sat next to my daughter, explaining what she needed to do, and you could immediately see the fear escalate. She paused for a moment and broke it down in such a thoughtful way. She showed my daughter the supplies and told her she knew it looked scary, then took the time to explain that not all of the needle would be entering her arm. She showed her exactly how much and explained it in a way my daughter could understand, making it far less frightening.

Then, as if that was not already amazing, my daughter became nervous because her veins did not look the best. Jordan included my daughter in the process of finding another vein, allowing her to feel it, which took her mind off what was happening. She continued to talk her through every step she took.

When she was finished, Jordan praised her for being brave and doing such a good job. My daughter talked about that moment for the rest of our stay, saying, “I did really good, Mama. The nurse said I did better than adults.” She even called her dad to tell him she was not afraid anymore because of that nurse. “She is my friend now,” she said. “She showed me the needle, and it is hardly big at all.”

Not only did Jordan go beyond what she had to do to make a scary situation less frightening, but she also completely changed my daughter’s outlook on getting an IV. She gave her the confidence to believe she could do it.

That is a nurse who truly has compassion and is in this career to make a difference, because she most definitely made a lasting impact on a child who was terrified of hospitals.

Thank you to Nurse Jordan for the beautiful light and love that shines in you. Nursing is a profession where you can tell when someone is truly called to it, and you were most definitely handpicked by God for this.
