Through her compassion and diligence that day, I saw the tenderness of lives and was reminded how much we matter to each other, including the people who are assigned to us as patients
In humility and reverence, I provide this nomination for the DAISY Award in recognition of my coworker, Megan Christensen, who showed great perseverance, compassion, and professionalism.

In the midst of a busy shift, a fellow coworker endured a hardship and needed immediate attention and care. Megan did not hesitate to provide her coworker aide and assistance, and she took stewardship of the assignment of the patients. Megan ran back and forth between tending to her coworker and treating the team of patients she had taken on, all while still serving as a Charge Nurse.

By the end of the shift, all patients were safe and treated properly. Assignments for the night shift were made on time and evenly distributed. As I exited the floor after giving a report and clocking out for the night, I saw Megan waiting patiently at the nurses' station. I asked Megan, “What are you waiting for?” She replied, “The night shift nurse is running late, you go ahead, I’ll be fine.”

I could only imagine how chaotic the shift may have been for Megan, but as I left, I could not help but be impressed with how calm and present she was. There was no remorse or frustration in her countenance.

How would you react if you saw a miracle right in front of you? I ponder on this day, and I feel its influence compel me that I have seen the everyday miracles that occur on our floor, and on this day, it was in the form of Megan’s dedication to her staff and patients.

Through her compassion and diligence that day, I saw the tenderness of lives and was reminded how much we matter to each other, including the people who are assigned to us as patients. There were multiple people that day who were properly treated and assigned to the right staff.

I was inspired to become better at my position as Charge Nurse through what I saw that day. I am lucky to have such a wonderful peer and coworker in Megan.
