Melissa’s leadership reflects compassion, accountability, mentorship, and excellence in patient care.
I would like to nominate Melissa for the DAISY Leader Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership, responsiveness, and unwavering support for both her team and the patients they serve.

Melissa consistently demonstrates what true servant leadership looks like in a complex and fast-paced clinical environment. During rounding today, she was recognized for always being highly responsive and supportive to both staff and leadership. Her willingness to step in wherever needed reflects her dedication to her clinicians and to patient safety.

Recently, Melissa immediately volunteered to perform a Home Orientation Visit with a new clinician who needed competency validation for an indwelling catheter skill. Although the scheduled visit involved a straight catheter and both educators were unavailable, Melissa recognized the importance of ensuring the clinician was properly supported. Because she lived closer to the patient, she quickly agreed to accompany the clinician in the field and complete the competency check-off, ensuring the clinician gained confidence and maintained high standards of care.

Melissa is also deeply committed to developing new hires. When she noticed that several new clinicians were struggling with visit management, case management responsibilities, and documentation, she proactively organized meetings to review practical tips and strategies. She then accompanied clinicians on visits to provide real-time coaching, feedback, and support. Her hands-on mentorship has been invaluable in helping new staff grow and succeed.

In addition to supporting clinical development, Melissa manages a demanding operational workload with professionalism and compassion. She regularly handles complaint calls from patients and families, working diligently to resolve concerns while maintaining trust. She also manages staff call-outs, ensuring patients are notified of schedule changes and that appropriate coverage is arranged to maintain uninterrupted care.

Melissa currently manages a team of 20 clinicians and makes it a priority to conduct monthly individual Leader Rounding with each of them. During these conversations, she checks in on their well-being, addresses concerns, and collaborates on solutions for challenging patient situations. Her clinicians feel heard, supported, and empowered because of the time and attention she dedicates to them.

She also demonstrates a strong commitment to her own leadership growth, consistently attending and actively participating in quarterly leader training sessions to strengthen her skills and better support her team.

Melissa’s leadership reflects compassion, accountability, mentorship, and excellence in patient care. Through her responsiveness, dedication to staff development, and commitment to supporting both clinicians and patients, she embodies the spirit of the DAISY Leader Award. She is truly deserving of this recognition.
