She fosters an environment of trust and autonomy while still being there when we need her most.
Before I even began my leadership journey at Methodist, a colleague told me, “Jamie is the best manager I’ve ever had.” At the time, I remember thinking how powerful that statement was—because in nursing, a great manager can make all the difference. Now, having the privilege of working under Jamie’s leadership, I completely understand why someone would say that.
Jamie exemplifies what a nurse leader should be. She leads with kindness, transparency, and integrity. She is open and honest with her team, and she follows through on what she says she will do. Her optimism and steady presence create an environment where staff feel supported and valued, even during the most challenging days.
One of Jamie’s greatest strengths is her curiosity and commitment to finding answers. If she doesn’t immediately know something, she will say so—but she never leaves it there. She takes the time to investigate, learn, and come back with thoughtful solutions. That mindset models lifelong learning and accountability for the entire team.
Jamie is also incredibly present. She does not lead from behind a desk—she is consistently on the floor connecting with staff, listening to concerns, and celebrating successes. When conflict arises, she approaches situations with fairness and compassion. She takes the time to hear everyone’s perspective and assumes positive intent, which builds trust and psychological safety within the team.
Jamie supports her staff in both big and small moments. She fosters an environment of trust and autonomy while still being there when we need her most. If a nurse needs help, she offers a hand; if a code button is pressed, she shows up. Her presence reassures the team that we are never alone in caring for our patients.
Jamie’s leadership has a meaningful impact not only on the nurses she supports but also on the patients and families we serve. When nurses feel respected, heard, and supported, they are able to provide the highest quality care—and Jamie makes that possible every day.
I now understand exactly why someone once told me she was the best manager they had ever had. Jamie leads with heart, integrity, and a genuine commitment to her team, and she truly deserves recognition as a DAISY Nurse Leader.
