I would like to formally nominate Erica Miller, who cared for me during my recent hospitalization following a very scary stroke evaluation.

From the moment Erica took over my care, she brought calm into what was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. She was not only highly skilled and attentive, but deeply compassionate. Erica took the time to listen to me, explain what was happening, and reassure me when fear and uncertainty felt overwhelming.

She treated me like a person, not just like a patient. Her presence alone was grounding–she checked on me often, advocated for my comfort, and made sure my concerns were heard and addressed. During moments where I felt vulnerable and scared, Erica showed patience, kindness, and genuine empathy. Because of Erica, I felt safe. Because of Erica, I felt seen. And because of Erica, a very frightening hospitalization became a little less terrifying. Nurses like Erica are the reason patients trust the healthcare system. She represents everything exceptional about nursing, and I am incredibly grateful for the care she provided during one of the hardest moments of my life.
