I followed Chanell for my nursing clinical rotation for five weeks. She taught me so much, and that is the reason that I now feel ready to graduate from nursing school. I have never had another nurse be so patient and willing to teach. She was so knowledgeable about her unit and very confident around patients. She set the example for me for professionalism at work. Chanell always remained calm, even when we were busy, and spoke to patients professionally and empathetically. She never sugarcoated the truth to patients about their condition but presented herself with such confidence that she made patients know they were in the hands of knowledgeable healthcare workers. She taught me so many nursing skills that I felt comfortable teaching my fellow students. I would not feel ready to be more confident in my skills if I did not have the opportunity to follow Chanell for so many consecutive shifts! She allowed me to perform skills and was always kind when critiquing and educating. Not being able to perform skills as a nursing student on clinical rotations is a common experience that leads to new graduate nurses feeling scared and unconfident when starting their career, so the opportunity to be paired with her and learn from her positively influenced my nursing school experience. Nurses like Chanell are hard to find!
