My son’s birthday was coming up, and he is accustomed to the celebrations I always organize for him. I had promised him a trip to the zoo this year to celebrate, but he was admitted to the hospital due to his health condition; his surgery had been scheduled, and we needed to be there for pre-operative preparations.

Naturally, he was very upset. This took a toll on his psychological state, and he began to withdraw, which was unlike his usual joyful and playful self. During the nursing rounds that day, the staff noticed he wasn't doing well; he was sad and refusing to speak with them. When they asked why, they discovered it was his birthday.

The nursing leader decided right then to throw him a surprise birthday party to cheer him up before his surgery. I took him up to the art therapy unit while they decorated the room. We painted his face, and when we came back down, they were ready for the celebration.

I want to thank the nurse and the entire team for considering my child's mental well-being before his surgery. This day remains etched in his memory to this day. Even though we’ve had many birthdays at home, the best one he ever had was that gathering in the hospital—it meant more to him than any trip ever could. Even now, whenever he has a follow-up appointment, he insists on going up to say hello to that nurse and the rest of the staff.
