What stood out most was Sydney's genuine kindness and humanity.
I would like to nominate Sydney De Polo for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional, compassionate care she provided to a patient at the end of life. During an incredibly difficult and emotional time, Sydney went above and beyond to ensure the patient was treated with dignity, comfort, and respect. She demonstrated remarkable presence and compassion, taking the time to truly connect with both the patient and their family. Sydney created a calm and supportive environment, helping the family feel seen, heard, and cared for during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Sydney was a strong advocate for the patient and family, ensuring their wishes were honored and that care decisions reflected what mattered most to them. She anticipated needs, communicated clearly and compassionately, and coordinated care in a way that promoted peace, comfort, and dignity at the end of life. In a particularly meaningful gesture, Sydney brought in a card and ensured that all CICU nurses had the opportunity to sign it in honor of the patient. This thoughtful act reflected not only her deep respect for the patient but also her ability to bring the care team together to collectively recognize the significance of the patient's life and passing. It was profoundly comforting to the family and demonstrated Sydney's commitment to human-centered, holistic care.

What stood out most was Sydney's genuine kindness and humanity. She did not simply provide excellent clinical care; she provided comfort, reassurance, and emotional support that had a lasting impact on the family. Her actions exemplify the very best of nursing and reflect the core values of compassion, empathy, and patient- and family-centered care. Her dedication, advocacy, and heart-centered approach made a meaningful difference and served as an inspiring example of what nursing can and should be.
