My husband is home now and caring for himself, and I will forever be grateful to her and will remember her always. Thank you, Jessica.
My 57-year-old husband was admitted to the ICU on a ventilator and placed on continuous dialysis. His nurse, Jessica, was meticulous in all her care, barely leaving his room or leaving him unattended for the entire 12-hour shift. She explained to me everything she was doing, and she would explain why the doctors were doing whatever procedures they were choosing. She took extreme measures to make sure he was positioned comfortably, and that all his equipment tubes, etc., were working properly, and whenever an alarm sounded, she immediately checked on why and fixed it.

If she stepped out, she would tell me how long she'd be away and that she would be outside the room and could still monitor his vital signs, etc. She would give me her honest opinion when asked the hard question of whether he was going to make it through his situation, for which I was extremely grateful for her honesty. I could see the care and compassion in her eyes as she gave me her opinion... She followed all the HIPAA rules, only discussing his condition with me unless I gave her the ok to discuss things with other family members. She never became frustrated or flustered in any way. I had complete confidence in her knowledge of his critical condition; knowing she would be there the next day helped me sleep that first night.

When she left for her days off, I told her I hoped we would see her in a few days, meaning that he was going to pull through, and with the smile of an angel, she said she hoped so too. He did continue to get better, and she was his nurse again, and even though she had a 2nd patient that day, she assured me she could still monitor his things when in with her other patient. She divided her time between the 2 equally and with continued excellent care for my husband. She was assertive with making sure we followed the unit's rules set the way they are. I tried to tell her as often as I could how much I appreciated her excellent care, but felt she deserved to be recognized on a higher level so that her colleagues and other patients' families would know how lucky they were to have her care for their loved ones. My husband is home now and caring for himself, and I will forever be grateful to her and will remember her always. Thank you, Jessica.
