I would like to nominate Daisy Portier for a Nurse Leader DAISY Award. Daisy is a very modest nurse leader. She never sings her praises but has a lot of heart. I had a personal experience with her where she helped a grieving family with the loss of their baby, who passed in the ED after spending time in the NICU. My heart is still full after sharing the situation after the grandfather contacted me after the baby’s death. He was crying and inconsolable. I couldn't determine how to assist this family. I reached out to Daisy to explore options for a memory that could be created for this family. Daisy was swift in her response, indicating we could do a memory box if the baby was still in the house. Of course, Daisy investigated to determine if the baby was still in the morgue 3 days post death. She brought with her the child life specialist and a House Sup. Not only did Daisy go to the morgue, but she warmed the hands and feet to obtain hand and footprints, and took a lock of hair to create such a special gift. I was surprised by her capacity. She is so loving and caring for a family she never knew. I am so grateful to be part of this organization, where nurse leaders walk the walk and model the way in providing extraordinary care. I will be forever in Daisy’s debt. She is amazing and is worthy of such special recognition as the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
